Frequently Asked Questions

Is this sustainable development course free?

Yes. The course itself is free and open access: all course units, student cases, and course games are available at no cost under a Creative Commons license, and the teaching cases—published working papers—are equally free to read and assign. For the linked readings, we have done our best to lean on open-access material and provide links to everything, but some readings—certain books and, more rarely, journal articles—are behind publisher paywalls and would need to be purchased or accessed through a library.

Do I need to enroll or create an account?

No. There is no enrollment, registration, or account creation. All course materials are immediately accessible to everyone as a self-guided, open educational resource.

Can I use these materials to teach my own course?

Yes. Instructors are welcome to adapt the full syllabus—course units, student cases, and course games—for their own classrooms under the CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 license, free of charge. The teaching cases, published as Harvard working papers, may be freely assigned as published.
