Source: UNEP-WCMC is a world leader in conservation data and information based in Cambridge. In collaboration with the University of Cambridge, and as part of the Cambridge Conservation Initiative (CCI), UNEP-WCMC wishes to appoint a suitably qualified person to the new position of Lecturer in Conservation Leadership. Based equally at the offices of UNEP-WCMC and the Department of Geography, the Lecturer will help build and deliver a new MPhil in Conservation Leadership, and play a key role in developing the activities of the CCI, with a focus on leadership talent for the future in biodiversity conservation.
The Lecturer will: • Work with the Director of Conservation Leadership in the Department of Geography, University of Cambridge, to develop, plan, and deliver the teaching programme for the new MPhil. • Help create a world-class learning and outreach programme, in collaboration with members of the CCI. • Carry out interdisciplinary research in any natural or social science field relevant to the conservation of nature or biodiversity. • Contribute to the development of activities relevant to UNEP-WCMC – e.g. in the marine environment, in the governance and management of institutions, in capacity building or in another area of expertise.
The Candidate: The Lecturer will have a PhD and will have started to establish an internationally renowned reputation in his or her field, with an emerging research record. He/She will have experience of applied conservation research and practice, and demonstrated an ability to initiate and nurture collaborations between academia and conservation organisations. Ideally, he/she will have experience of teaching and managing taught postgraduate programmes and excellent communication / presentation skills.
