My research is orientated to the exploration of green alternatives for chemical reactions based on biocatalysis and biotransformations.
Green Chemistry already has a major impact in social and economic development in the industrialized societies. There is a real concern that the current outsourcing policies of many chemical companies might move hazardous procedures outside from developed countries into emerging economies where environmental control is less strict. That kind of practice is detrimental for both the developed and developing countries since it eliminates high quality jobs from the former and translate them into low quality jobs in the later.
Chemists have been active all over the world in promoting Green Chemistry in industry but also in academia, in the sense that green chemistry practices should be applied all over the Chemists´ training.
My work is seminal in my country in introducing green chemistry alternatives and particularly strategies involving biocatalysis as an adequate tool for developing countries.
